Why Beliefs are Powerful
"What You Believe Can Let You Do the
Impossible or Even Stop You From Doing the Possible"
Sometimes the only difference between the possible and impossible can be
a simple belief that you have. If something is physically possible
why is it that you may still not be able to to do it?
There may be people that have done it before so the excuse that it isn't
possible is unacceptable. You may want to do the same thing but are
slowed down or even stopped dead in your tracks.
Why? Because of one or more beliefs that you may have.
Do you think that this is nonsense? Good, here is an example to
make you think again.
Imagine that ...
There is a wooden plank that is two feet
wide and thirty feet long supported by two small concrete blocks on the
ground at each end.
That plank would be only six inches
above the ground and absolutely and totally secure. You would be
able to check this if you wanted but would you even bother?
If someone were to ask you to walk along
this plank from one end to the other, would you be able to do it?
What if they were even willing to pay
you do it? Would you do it?
Would you be afraid of falling off it
and onto the ground six inches below?
No, of course not because you would have
complete confidence and KNOW that you could not be hurt in any way.
But then they ask you to do it again. No problem. That's
easy you think.
But this time they put a blindfold on you so you can't see. They
even add handrails to help you get across.
You know it's only six inches off the ground and agree.
You know that there is nothing to be afraid of and you just do it.
Later they tell you the news.
Now Imagine this ...
That same wooden plank, still absolutely
secure was REALLY suspended two hundred feet in the air between two
buildings.
That's what you just walked across.
Somehow. How could you have done this?
You walked across the plank with
confidence because you had been secretly tricked into believing that you
were still close to the ground.
You knew for a fact that walking across
this plank almost on the ground was easy to do.
You believed that it would be easy and
had no reason to doubt that it wasn't.
You may have even thought that they were stupid for having even paid you
to do it.
But now you're angry for having been tricked and almost risked your
life.
For you and many other people, it is
almost impossible to walk across that same plank two hundred feet above
the ground because you would believe that you would fall and be seriously
injured or even die.
Once it was explained later to you that
this was only an experiment, you would most likely still be upset and find it
difficult to believe that you had actually walked across it.
But you did. You should be happy that you did because they proved
to you that you CAN do what you may have thought impossible.
Beliefs Can Be Changed
In this imaginary situation you were tricked into doing something you
may have thought impossible. If you did it then that is proof enough
that it was possible.
The only thing that could have stopped you was your belief. Even
though you were deceived you still did it.
The most important thing is that SOME WAY had to be used to make you
believe that it was possible. At least for a short time. And
then you just did it.
What if you had the power to change your beliefs so that you could do
what you may think impossible?
Would you use it?
There are many ways to change any belief that's stopping you from
finding success. Once you find the way best for you the rest is
easy. You just do it and succeed. After all ...
it's always your choice.
